Social Capital

Social Capital is the value of the positive social connections that people can draw on to solve individual and common problems. These social connections are created through social and civic activities in the community. While reports show that social capital is on the decline, the USF Collaborative, along with its Resilience Working Group, have made sustaining and creating social capital outlets in Tampa Bay its top priority.

Social capital offers many benefits to both individuals and communities. People with high social capital tend to know their neighbors, socialize with friends and co-workers more, belong to community organizations, and are more likely to sign petitions and show up at voting booths.

Below, you can find ways to increase you and your child’s social capital, your community’s social capital, how to get involved in our efforts, or simply learn more about this topic.
